Blank Canvas: April 25th, 2018, Steffon Grant

We are shining the spotlight on Freeport native, artist and educator, Steffon Grant, on “Blank Canvas” this evening.

He joins host Amanda Coulson, NAGB Director, to discuss his artistic practice and share insights on his first solo exhibition “By the Way”, which is currently on view at the Melia Hotel on Cable Beach. Grant attended St. George’s High School in Freeport then moved to New Providence to attend the then-College of The Bahamas (now University of The Bahamas). He studied Mathematics and only came to art later in his college career.

After graduation he spent two years on Grand Bahama as an art teacher and practising artist. Grant speaks to this experience and the availability of resources, or lack thereof, on both the Family Islands and New Providence for arts education in schools. He later moved back to the capital to look for more opportunities and is currently the Education Co-ordinator at the Current at Baha Mar.

“By the Way” is a continuation of Grant’s artistic practice and will be on view at the Melia Hotel for the next six months.
