2003: Inaugural National Exhibition (INE)In March 2003, a Call for Works was sent out inviting Bahamian artists, residing at home and abroad, to submit three pieces created in or after 1973 for a juried inaugural exhibition. More than 270 works were submitted from more than 130 artists. Seventy three works (73) were chosen for inclusion in the show by a seven-member panel of judges. As a result, the INE featured some of the most exciting art produced in The Bahamas over the past 30 years.
2003: Bahamian Visions, 1870-1920
A photography exhibition consisting of images of Nassau by three photographers working during the period 1870-1920 – Jacob F. Coonley, James Jackson and William “Doc” Sands. It demonstrates how certain iconographic images of The Bahamas were produced during the period and impacted how these islands were seen, both then and now.
2003: One Man’s Vision: The Collection of Vincent Y. D’AguilarThis was an exhibition of works from the collection of Vincent D’Aguilar, one of the country’s premier private art collectors. The collection included gems by Bahamian artists such as Amos Ferguson, Stanley Burnside, Maxwell Taylor, Antonius Roberts and John Beadle, to name a few.
